Teen saves Sasser man from hog attack

SASSER, GA- A Sasser man is recovering and grateful to be alive after a wild hog attacked him on his farm.

He was saved by a quick-acting teenager who shot the hog to death in the middle of the attack.

"We were going back over there to look at it and people we're gathering around and all of a sudden he managed to get the door open and got out," said Bill Cobb.

Cobb was trapping hogs on his Randolph County farm after the wild animals kept wrecking havoc on his property.

 Victoria Metz  knowingly cashed $79,361.00 in stolen Internal Revenue Service refund checks while she was employed as a teller at Colony Bank in Leesburg.

Truck and tractor pulling returns toTifton

TIFT CO., GA (WALB)- The Spring edition of the Tifton Truck and Tractor Pull is in town today and tomorrow at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

 Truck and tractor pullers from all across the Southeast will compete for Southern Pullers Association Championship points and prize money.

Albany Tech student wins state award

ATLANTA, GA (WALB)- An Albany Technical College student will represent the face of the Technical College System of Georgia for the next year.

At a banquet Thursday night in Atlanta, Aamir Greene was named the state winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership.

Greene is a decorated, retired Marine who served three tours in Iraq. He started his education in Albany Tech's Telecommunications Engineering Technology program last year.

Greene is President of the school's Student Government Association and part of the Achieving the Dream Core Team.

Even churches are robbed

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Dougherty County Investigators are looking for thieves who are targeting rural churches. Berean Freewill Baptist on Branch Road was hit by burglars sometime between Sunday and yesterday.

The burglars pried open a side door but could not get into the office, and nothing was stolen. It's the second rural church hit recently.

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Lawmakers called on President Obama to improve the massive backlog in disability claims at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Nearly 900,000 claims are waiting to be processed.

Lowndes spoils Lee Co.'s Senior Night

LEESBURG, GA (WALB)- The Lee County Trojans clinched a state playoff spot Tuesday night, and were hoping to build some momentum Wednesday, hosting Lowndes on Senior Night.

Both teams' offenses brought their bats to play, with the Vikings leading 7-4 after just three innings.

In the bottom of the 4th, Andrew Stroud helped the Trojans cut into the lead with a two-run homer into left center.

But the Trojans weren't able to make it all way back, falling 8-7.

Lee closes out their regular season Friday at Colquitt Co.
