Memorial ride for fallen Lee County marine

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB)- Motorcycle riders rode through the streets of Leesburg Saturday to remember a fallen Marine.

Friends and relatives of Lance Corporal Steven Sutton held the first Big Steve Memorial Dice ride this morning. Sutton was killed last May in Afghanistan.

The first bike went out around 10am and bikers made several stops, before ending at the Moose Lodge in Albany.  Organizers say it's a great way to remember Big Steve and support his family.

Lee Co. officials investigate arson and burglary

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB)- Lee County fire officials are investigating a house fire that they believe was intentionally set after the home was burglarized.

Firefighters were called to the home on 108 Berkeley Road in Leesburg around 7am Saturday. 

The Lee County Fire Chief says there was extensive damage to the home and at this point they're not sure what was taken. 

No one was at home at the time of the incident and no one was hurt.  The fire remains under investigation.

 

Free men's health screening offered today

Today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sam's Club will host free men's health screenings in honor of Men's Health Month in June.

The screenings are free and available to the public at your Albany Sam's Club. While the health screening event focuses on men's health, the screenings will offer tests for both men and women.

'Big Steve Dice Ride' happens Saturday

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB)- The streets of Leesburg will be full of motorcycles Saturday to honor and remember their fallen hero. Marine Lance Corporal Steve Sutton was killed last year on May 26th while serving our country in Afghanistan. Now, his friends and family members want to carry on his memory through the first annual "Big Steve Memorial Dice Ride."

MCLB Command changes

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Major General Charles Hudson is leaving his post after two years on the job and moving on the next command.

He says while he's leaving the Logistics command in a good place, he's had many challenges as commanding general.

 "Having to learn a different level of logistics. Something that I was not accustomed to during my first couple of decades in the Marine Corps," said Major General Charles Hudson, Commanding General, and Marine Corps Logistics Command.

Lee Co. doctor convicted of tax evasion

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- From the U. S. Attorney's Office 

Today, June 7, 2013, Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced the conviction after a jury trial of Dr. Robert B. Sperrazza, age 60, formerly a resident of Lee County, Georgia.  Dr. Sperrazza was convicted in United States District Court after a four day trial before the Honorable W. Louis Sands, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia.
